Here at A1 Professional Pest Control we respect nature, which is why we know there are certain types of pests that require careful handling. In Australia, there are a few different types of spiders which can cause serious harm, or even produce fatal venom. One of these spiders is the species known as the funnel web spider. In this blog post we’re going to give you a little more information about this insect, as well as some information on how we deal with spiders here at A1 Professional Pest Control.
What are funnel web spiders?
Funnel web spiders are generally grey or brown in colour, the female measuring in at approximately 30mm and the male 25mm (body length). There are a wide variety of places that funnel spiders will choose to create the large, funnel-shaped web that they are known for. This includes in bushes and trees, the corners of buildings, and inside your home.
Not all funnel web spiders are dangerous, but the male Sydney funnel-web spider is responsible for thirteen deaths, and causes medically serious bites most years. Even if the spider is not dangerous, they are very persistent visitors to the home and will continue to create large webs that prove difficult to get rid of.
